When it comes to enjoying cannabis, there are many ways that you can choose to do so. While smoking cannabis is incredibly popular, edibles are all the rage, as well. One often-overlooked alternative to edibles is to drink your marijuana.
Making a marijuana drink is much easier than you may realize, and there are numerous recipes available online. With the vast array of marijuana drink recipes, you are sure to find something that meets your tastes and desired effort level.
A Note on Decarboxylating
Before you try out any of these marijuana drink recipes, keep in mind that you will need to decarboxylate the cannabis. This process involves heating up the cannabis to convert the THCA to THC. This step is crucial because our bodies can interact with THC but not THCA. If you skip decarboxylating your cannabis, you will just have a drink that tastes like cannabis but does not give you any of the desired psychoactive effects since it will not have activated THC.
How to Decarboxylate
There are a few variations on decarboxylating cannabis, but the general method is always the same.
Set your oven to 240 degrees and spread out your cannabis on a baking sheet before covering it using aluminum foil. Put the cannabis in the oven for about 25 minutes and then let it cool before continuing the recipe.
You may see instructions with varying temperatures or telling you to bake the cannabis for more or less time. All decarboxylating instructions, however, should look similar to these.
Cannabis milk is just what it sounds like, a combination of milk and cannabis. If you like the taste of milk or want to get some calcium along with your cannabis, then this is a recipe to consider. It is also a good option for those who want to add a bit of cannabis milk to their morning coffee.
You could also use this cannabis milk in any recipe that calls for regular milk, such as smoothies, to turn those non-cannabis drinks into marijuana-infused ones.
You will need four cups of whole milk, a quarter ounce of cannabis flower which has been finely ground, and a cheesecloth.
What to Do
As with most of the recipes on this list, you need to start by decarboxylating your cannabis. After that, set up a double boiler with your milk and heat the milk until it simmers. Slowly add in your finely ground cannabis. Stir the mixture continuously until the milk fully covers your cannabis.
Let the milk and cannabis simmer for between 30 and 45 minutes. During this time, you will want to stir the mixture, which should be greenish or yellow, occasionally. Afterward, take the pot with the milk from the heat and strain it using a cheesecloth. To get every bit of your cannabis milk, squeeze the cheesecloth.
Remember to let your cannabis milk cool before enjoying it, unless you prefer it hot.
You will notice that many of the other recipes on this list include cannabis milk as a recipe. As such, you may want to keep a batch on hand if you are a fan of cannabis-infused drinks. If you decide to increase the recipe, just remember to use between ½ and 1 gram of marijuana for each quart of milk.
Cannabis Simple Syrup
Another simple recipe that you can use to enhance nearly any drink you want is the cannabis simple syrup. You can add the simple syrup to nearly any beverage you want for a hint of sweetness along with the high you want.
This recipe includes decarboxylating the cannabis, so you do not have to do so separately ahead of time.
You will need 3 cups of fine granulated sugar, 3 cups of filtered water, 2 tablespoons of vegetable glycerin, and 2 grams of finely ground or finely chopped cannabis.
What to Do
Use a medium pot to combine sugar and water. Let the mixture boil and keep stirring it until the sugar dissolves completely. Add the cannabis and cover the pot as it cooks for about 20 minutes. During this time, make sure to keep a gentle boil as this ensures decarboxylation and prevents the mixture from scorching.
Add in the vegetable glycerin, and then let the mixture simmer for five to six minutes. Occasionally take the lid off to stir it. Strain the mixture using a cheesecloth and store it to use later.

Hot Cannabutter Apple Cider
Hot apple cider is a favorite fall drink of many, and this version lets you enjoy the drink, along with your favorite strain of cannabis. As a bonus, it also has a bit of alcohol, so you get double the fun with this drink.
The cannabis in this recipe comes from 3 tablespoons of cannabutter. You also need 1 ½ cups of either apple brandy or applejack, a ¼ cup of light brown sugar (packed), 6 cups of unfiltered apple juice or apple cider, freshly grated nutmeg, 6 tablespoons of fresh lemon juice, and 6 cinnamon sticks.
What to Do
Start by grabbing a large pot and combining the applejack, brown sugar, and cannabutter in it. Turn the heat to medium and bring the mixture to a simmer. Stir it frequently and keep simmering until the butter and sugar melt. Make sure that it only simmers and does not boil.
Once the sugar and cannabutter have melted, stir in the cinnamon sticks, lemon juice, and cider. Now you can let the mixture boil. Let it steep for a little.
Remove the mixture from the heat and serve it, topping each mug with a cinnamon stick and sprinkled nutmeg.
Hot Cocoa With Canna
If you have your cannabis milk on hand, try this recipe for cannabis-infused hot chocolate when the weather gets cold, or you just want to enjoy something sweet. The great thing about this recipe is that you can easily adjust the sweetener to make it sugar-free if you are diabetic or watching your sugar.
You will need ½ cup of cannabis milk, a cup of cocoa powder (unsweetened), a pinch of salt, 3 cups of milk, a cup of water, ¾ teaspoon of vanilla extract, and ½ cup of half and half.
What to Do
Start by boiling the water. Then grab a saucepan and put the cocoa, sugar, and salt in it. Add the boiling water to this saucepan and let it continue a low boil for two minutes, frequently stirring.
Keep stirring as you add in the cannabis milk and regular milk. Keep heating the mixture until it is steaming, but do not let it reach a boil. If you accidentally let the milk boil, it may scald. Once the mixture is steaming, take it off the burner and add in the vanilla. Serve it with the half and half to cool down the mixture and add creaminess.

Strawberry Canna-Basil Lemonade
For those who love lemonade, this strawberry canna-basil lemonade recipe is the perfect choice. You can make it with a standard blender or an immersion blender, depending on what appliances you have on hand.
You will need 4 tablespoons of cannabis tincture in addition to ½ cup of fresh-squeezed lemon juice (from around 5 lemons), 3 ¼ cups of water, sugar to taste (likely at least a cup), 4 to 6 strawberries, and 2 ½ tablespoons of fresh basil.
What to Do
Start by juicing your lemons to make freshly squeezed lemon juice. Put the juice into the pitcher you plan on using.
Grab a small saucepan and put the sugar plus a cup of water in it. Let this boil while frequently stirring to help the sugar dissolve. Once the sugar dissolves, turn off the heat and let the sugar-water syrup cool until it reaches room temperature. Then put it in the fridge so that it can chill more.
Cut the tops off of the strawberries. Combine this cooled sugar water (syrup mixture), lemon juice, cannabis tinctures, basil, leftover water, and strawberries in a blender. You can do this in a traditional blender or do it right in your pitcher with an immersion blender. Blending will take around 20 seconds. You can tell it is ready if the basil has become finely chopped and the drink looks pink.

Grab your glasses and fill them with the tea about two-thirds of the way. Pour the butter mixture on top and stir. The cannabutter mixture will sink as you enjoy the beverage, so you will need to keep stirring it occasionally as you enjoy.
